Blimey. I managed more than one day in a row. This is a minor celebration.

Listed four things on eBay and took photos of two more items, so that is going well. Still plenty of items to list. I should probably organize them more, but that smacks of non-useful fretting and I am trying to steer away from that.

I have to pack up because this weekend is my three day writing weekend. I get a hotel room for three days over Labor Day weekend and whenI am done, I have a novel. Or the majority of one. My goal for this year is to finish as many of my works in progress as I can. And of course I will start new projects if I feel the urge. It’s just an orgy of creation.

Would you look at that, the blog post is getting longer too. I might actually get the hang of this thing.

The hardest part of starting a new habit is making it actually happen on a daily basis. I am sure once I actually get the hang of it, this will work. Of course, the best laid plans of mice and men…

anyway, yesterday I got two pages of a new story written down. It features a set of characters that I tend to go back to on a regular basis. I got to introduce two characters I have only ever referred to before, so that was interesting. And I have to figure out the timeline a little more clearly for one of the main characters’ life. (Awkward sentence construction is fun.) But it was new words and nearly 300 of them in no time, so go me!

Also listed 7 lots on eBay tonight. If I keep it up, I might be able to get through the piles of stuff that we are ready to release back into the world for someone else to enjoy.

I had to refresh my Outlook calendar three times before I could believe that I didn’t have any meetings today. It was bizarrely quiet at work. Most disconcerting.

Also, open note to the dude I saw tonight skateboarding into an oncoming traffic lane wearing all black and a black baseball cap. You are fricking nuts and going to get you stupid ass killed if you keep doing that. Try thinking ahead and Bring something reflective with you.

In my defense, I was playing UNO with my friends and listing stuff on eBay. This decluttering gig can be tough. Especially when one loves thrifting.

Anyway, I am back on track and posting something today, even if it isn’t scintillating.

I am going to give this blogging thing another shot. I am pretty good about scheduling the Sunday Night Music feature, but actually blogging something not so much.

So tonight I am sitting and doing Dina layout proofs on a flash fiction and poetry collection. I am almost done with it. It has taken me far longer than it should have and that’s all on me.

Still, I am doing things and maybe someday soon I will actually get to all of the business type emails that have been sitting only inbox. This is an open apology to anyone I haven’t answered yet. I will get there. I promise.

That’s it for the first of what I hope to make a daily practice. Not something smart or stimulating, but a start and that’s what counts.

The books finished during my reading:

• Dead Reckoning – William Dresden. I picked this up to support a new author. It’s a horror novella, so be warned. It has an intriguing premise. I am going to keep an eye out for another book in the same universe.
• Bad Paper: Chasing Debt from Wall Street to the Underworld – Jack Halpern. Fascinating look into the debt industry. A little scary and only slightly outdated. It wraps up in 2015.
• Helen & Troy’s Epic Road Quest – A. Lee Martinez. Totally worth the romp. Sublimely ridiculous and still heartwarming with just enough tension. A great balancing act.
• The Master of Dreams – Mike Resnick. First book in a trilogy. I really wish the rest were already available.

So, I have a plan to spend the majority of this weekend just reading. Excepting the D&D hours and religious obligations. So, let’s see what gets read this weekend.

I was left alone in a bookstore all by myself. This is a dangerous state of affairs. Here’s what I picked up.

• Hyperspace – Michio Kaku : Because I am a nerd and love physics.
• Brain on Fire – Susannah Cahaln : Because I was listening to a podcast and they discussed this unique viewpoint into a disease I’d never heard of and I have to read it
• Coin Heist – Elisa Ludwig : Teenage heist movie in book form. I’m game for heist books in general and this one was on sale
• The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter – Theodora Goss : I saw the sequel and decided to read the first one before jumping into the one that’s twice the size of it. Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, Holmes, and Watson — it sounds like my jam.
• The Master of Dreams – Mike Resnick : The cover caught me.
• Lies Sleeping – Ben Aaronovitch : The next in the Rivers of London Series. I’ve read almost all of them and plan to finish the one before this one before the end of the month, so I had to get the next one.
• Kill the Farm Boy – Delilah S. Dawson & Kevin Hearne : I’m pretty sure I’ve read both of these authors in different forms, but, well, it involves a talking goat. I couldn’t resist. (Hint: Read Scapegoats by Andrew Grell, talking goats and quests)
• Swan’s Way – Marcel Proust (Lydia Davis Trans.) : I’ve wanted to read Proust for awhile, but my French just isn’t good enough to do it in the original language.
• Krav Maga – David Kahn : I think this one is self-explanatory.
